Muñequita on deck

Muñequita has a unique deck arrangement. She has two cabin tops. The aft cabin top enables an extremely comfortable full-width aft cabin with direct entry from the cockpit. The forward cabin top provides a companionway into the galley and main cabin.

All Cherubini sail boats have decorated trailboards on their bows, which culminate in a little angel -- a baby cherub, in Italian, a Cherubini!

The foredeck is clean, with a lovely teak deck box to hold docking lines and other gear. A bumper board is stowed on deck, for docking against piles.

This image of the base of the foremast shows some of the distinctive sailing equipment on a modern staysail schooner.

The main staysail is on a roller, so it is set by hauling its clew out haul. It is furled by pulling in its furler line.

On the back side of the foremast is a track with contemporary low-friction slides. The luffs of the special schooner sails, fisherman staysail and gollywobber, are attached to these slides before hoisting.

The forward companionway goes directly into the galley and main cabin, bypassing the aft cabin.

The lines and winch for handling the main staysail are on the aft starboard end of the forward cabin top. A full width traveller gives full control of the main staysail boom under any weather conditions.

There are lots of places for guests to sit on these boats.

The view from the helm provides good visibility forward. Instruments are easily visible above the companionway to the aft cabin. A full navigation station is just in front of the companionway.

Winches on the cabin top are for the main sheet and main furling system.

The joystick above the binnacle controls the bow thruster.

As in all Cherubini cockpits, the helmsman has a wide seat. The black buttons are switches for the powerful electric sheet winches (hi speed and low speed). A simple guard above the switches prevents unintentional use of these switches.

She does not have a boomkin with permanent backstay; her modern Bergstrom-Ridder swept-back standing rig holds the mast back, so running backstays are only rarely used.

The gallows for the main boom is easily removed and rarely needed.

Muñequita's cockpit is very well protected. She spends a lot of time on the ocean, migrating back and forth from Florida to New England each year.
